Warticon Cream for genital warts
Warticon is a proven topical treatment for genital warts. Applied directly to the affected area for 3-day treatment cycles. It Contains podophyllotoxin, which kills the virus causing genital warts. Warticon can clear genital warts within 4 to 5 weeks. It comes in cream and solution form, with an applicator.
About genital warts
Genital warts are the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by HPV (types 6 and 11), typically transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, especially during sexual activity.
Fortunately, these HPV types don't cause cancer. Treatments can get rid of genital warts. But once you have genital warts and HPV, you can always transmit the STI to others. So, take effective treatment, use condoms, and practice safe sex.
Genital warts can appear in various areas including:
- Penis and scrotum (in males).
- Vagina, vulva, vaginal lips (labia minora and labia majora), and cervix (in females).
- Anus
- Groin area.
- Rectum.
- Lips, mouth, tongue, or throat (if transmitted during oral sex).
It's important to get a diagnosis and effective treatment for genital warts to reduce the risk of passing the infection to sexual partners. Warticon cream or solution is a highly recommended treatment for genital warts by doctors and healthcare professionals worldwide.
How does it work?
The active ingredient in Warticon is podophyllotoxin, which works by attacking the HPV virus that causes genital warts.
Warticon stops the HPV virus from replicating and spreading, resulting in the warts dying and new, healthy tissue growing instead.
It is suitable for treating the external skin of the penis, vagina, or surrounding groin area, but should not be used internally or around the anus.
With the recommended treatment course of Warticon (two applications per day, 12 hours apart, for three consecutive days per week), genital warts should be fully gone within four to five weeks.
Warticon cream effectiveness
Usually, warts disappear after 4 weeks of using Warticon, but some patients may need longer treatment. If warts persist after 4 weeks, contact us via your Patient Record or see your GP. Using a double dose won't make it work better or faster. Warticon must be used as prescribed, and warts may reappear after treatment.
Choosing Warticon Cream or Solution:
We stock 2 different variants of Warticon Cream & Solution
Appearance: Warticon cream is a white cream that absorbs into the skin upon application. On the other hand, Warticon solution is a blue liquid that may temporarily turn the treated area blue during treatment.
Suitable for Genital Warts: Warticon cream or solution is an appropriate treatment for confirmed genital warts that appear on the external skin of the penis, vagina, or the surrounding area of the groin. It's important to note that it's not licensed for the treatment of warts around the anus.
Gender-Specific Recommendations: Typically, the solution is more commonly recommended for men due to the nature and position of their genitals, while the cream is often recommended for women. However, you can choose either option based on your preference. Both the cream and solution have similar effectiveness rates, and there are no significant differences in cure rates.
Warticon is not a suitable treatment for you if:
- You are allergic to podophyllotoxin or any of the other ingredients
- The skin around or covering your wart (or warts) is damaged, broken, or bleeding
- You have warts covering an area greater than 4cm squared (around the size of a postage stamp)
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
While using Warticon, avoid:
- Using the application on healthy skin
- Getting the application in your eyes or mouth
- Using the application on the inside of the vagina, penis, or rectum
- Covering any treated areas with plasters or dressings

FAQ
How does Warticon work?
Warticon is a topical treatment used directly on genital warts in the genital area. It works by targeting the human papillomavirus (HPV), which both causes and sustains genital warts. Instead of attacking the warts directly, which would be ineffective.
The active ingredient, podophyllotoxin, goes after the HPV itself. By inhibiting the virus's ability to multiply and spread, it reduces the symptoms, causing the warts to gradually disappear. As the warts recede, healthy tissue replaces them over time.
How do I use Warticon?
Warticon should be applied twice each day (with a 12-hour gap between the applications) for three consecutive days, then stop treatment for the following four days - this is one cycle of treatment. You can safely use Warticon for four to five consecutive cycles if needed.
To apply Warticon Cream:

To apply Warticon Solution:
Wash all affected areas with soap and water, then dry with a towel. Dip the loop end of the applicator into the solution. If your wart is large or you have a clump of warts, dip the spatula end into the solution. Apply the solution to each wart until it is covered, do not apply to healthy skin. Allow the solution to dry on the skin. Screw the lid back on and wash your hand thoroughly.
Can I put Warticon on warts that are inside the body?
No. You cannot apply Warticon internally. If you have warts inside the rectum, vagina, cervix or in the urethra (the hole where urine comes out) then please see a doctor for further medical advice, this product is not suitable for you.
Can you have sex whilst using Warticon?
No. Warticon weakens condoms and diaphragms. Please remember that genital warts are very contagious and can be passed on even whilst wearing a condom, so you should refrain from sexual activity whilst undergoing genital warts treatment.
How long do I need to use Warticon before I see results?
Genital warts may begin to clear up after a few weeks. However, they should completely clear up after an average of 5 weeks of using Warticon.
