Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve mild to moderate pain, reduce fever, and decrease inflammation.

You can use both over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription ibuprofen to treat migraines, painful menstrual periods, and some other common cold and flu symptoms, such as fever, body aches, and headache.

Ibuprofen 400mg tablets can also be combined with other painkillers or found as an ingredient in some cold and flu medications, like Nurofen.

A doctor may prescribe ibuprofen to reduce swelling and stiffness caused by arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis).

How to take Ibuprofen 400mg tablets?

Ibuprofen comes as a prescription treatment either as a tablet or in liquid form and should be taken by mouth. When using it to treat arthritis, it should be taken  4 times a day and after 4 to  6 hours if using it to relieve pain.

Ibuprofen tablets can be taken with food or a drink like milk to prevent stomach aches. If the doctor prescribes the treatment, always follow the instructions given or on the patient's leaflet.

How long does Ibuprofen take to work?

Ibuprofen treatment is effective for the first 20 to 30 minutes. The effects of the treatment stay for 4 to 6 hours.
